Weapon of choice - Fabric
BFA in Fashion Design with minor in Merchandising
What got you started making crafts?
My Momma! That's right. My Mom is an artist and has always had lots of fun stuff around the house. She also taught me how to be a packrat (drive Marcus crazy!). I've always loved the fact that I can look at things and change them and make them more fun or exciting or beautiful or whatever else they could be. I also have this uncanny ability to be extremely graceful and coordinated when I am using my hands making something, but the biggest clutz on the planet when anything else is concerned. I walk into walls on a near-daily basis...
What are your favorite craft mediums?
Anyone who knows me will tell you I can't be separated from my sewing machines. I love fabric. It can be changed and used in so many different ways, and there is so much out there the possibilities endless. I also just got an embroidery machine from my parents (they're awesome!!!) so I've been embroidering on everything within reach lately.
Do you sell any of your work or do you plan to?
I haven't ever sold any of my work, but I also haven't tried yet. I am in the midst of planning a new store which will open hopefully within the next year or so, but no promises so don't get too excited just yet. My store will be called Undercover Couture, and will make semi-custom lingerie. I don't have a website yet, but as soon as I do I will be posting more info there.
What do you personally want to get out of the Denton Craft Mafia?
Okay, so I'm really lame and I have to copy Mandy on this one. She says (in case you read my profile first...) "I have so many plans for this group! What I want most though is to create a place for other people to get what they want. I would really like to plan various events and trips, shows, trunk sales, advertise together, and become a network of like-minded crafters. Keeping with the mafia mindset, I want to create a family type environment, that supports each other rather than becoming each others competition." Rock on, Mandy... rock on.
What do you like most about Denton?
Denton is actually pretty cool. I like that you can go one direction and see fields and horses and be in the country, but you can go the other direction and be in one of the cities in hte U.S. big enough to make it onto the world map. There are so many college kids and just-out-of-college kids like myself that there is just this laid back feeling about it that makes me just want to kick back.
What are some of your other interests?
Oh, wow this answer could be impossibly long. My other interests include but are not limited to: knitting, crochet, other misc. needlecrafts, watching movies, planning my wedding, learning to cook, candle and soapmaking, hoarding magazines, going broke buying cool stuff on eBay, gardening, reading, writing, drawing (although I suck...), and anything else that sounds cool at the time.
What other jobs do you have and what other activities are you involved in?
Well Mandy, since you asked I make signs for a living and design t-shirts on the side.
Favorite bands?
I have always hated this question because I always forget a ton of bands and then feel like an idiot when I'm like "I LOVE this song!" but then I remember that I didn't put that band down as one of my favorites. I listen to pretty much every type of music under the sun from Charlie Daniel's band to Pink Floyd and Five Iron Frenzy to 50 Cent Music.
Favorite foods?
I'm a quarter Italian and that's enough to make me a food lover! I'll try anything once except mushrooms, pickles, or bugs. Yes... I have been offered steamed cockroaches. I had to pass on that one. If I had to pick my favorite foods, I'd have to say spaghetti, fettucine alfredo, ice cream (especially Blue Bell Homemade Vanilla) and applesauce.
